A few Testimonials:

Drawing Realistic Textures in Pencil is a wonderful gift, thank you so much for the knowledge. This is my most favorite book, I refer to it often. I know I'll be a better artist because of it. Your talents, techniques and willingness to share are inspiring on several levels. Thank you :)

I am a beginner drawer and find that this book is a must-have. I think that everyone, beginners and pros alike, will learn something valuable from Hillberry's book. He's a master artist and I am thrilled to be able to find out his "secret" techniques of which combination of paper, pencil, eraser and blending tool is used to create each texture.

Get this book and you won't be disappointed.

This book was an incredible find. I've poured over the pages 4 or 5 times in just a month. It is filled with step-by-step techniques and- unlike many books of this type- offers REAL content to the reader. The book explains JD Hillberry's amazing realism techniques. It explains his use of graphite and charcoal to render values and depth in his drawings. Included are suggeste dlists of materials, a TON of photographs and lots of instruction for the beginner or pro alike. An EXCELLENT resource. Worth every penny.

Of all the many "how to" art books I own, this is the one book I would grab if my house was on fire. The explanations as well as the illustrations make it delightful to recreate a 3 dimensional setting with all its textures and depth. And it's possible with simple, basic drawing implements. It inspires me.

I have purchased many books that I had hoped would help better my skills as an artist. I found this book to be the best that I have ever purchased. The amount of detail that the author-artist demonstrates was an excellent fit for me. I have a passion for detail in my work and few published works have been able to satisfy my need to improve that aspect of my avocation. J. D. Hillberry is a true artist/craftsman and works magic with the pencil.

I highly recommend this book for beginners to the advanced artist. It should be on every bookshelf of every artist, established or newcomer. Brilliant!

Below are some samples of pencil drawings done by people that have purchased my book.

This is drawing done by Monica from Georgia
before she purchased my book. It's a nice drawing but void of contrast and texture.

This is what she was able to do after purchasing my book and working through the techniques. Great Job, Monica!

This drawing was done by Eric S. after he purchased my book. Everything here is drawn, including the frame and the little dedication he made to me. Thanks so much, Eric. I'm flattered for the dedication and so happy that my techniques have helped you create such beautiful work.

Add the a drawing pencil set and the 3 extra pencils that I recommend to the book for an additional $22.99

Recently, I collaborated with General's Pencil Company to produced a special drawing kit that contains many of the pencils I use and recommend. This drawing kit features a mini sample of one of my charcoal and pencil drawings entitled "A String of Memories" along with a guide that explains the pencils and blending materials used to create the drawing. I also have available 3 more pencils that are not included in the kit but I feel are an essential part of my drawing materials.
